Yuma, Ariz. (Kyma, Kecy) – The Elizabeth Solar Project is set to shape on public land near Dataland and is designed to generate and store hundreds of megawatts of renewable energy.
The Elizabeth Solar Project will soon be located in the heart of the Agua Caliente Solar Energy Zone.
Facilities approved by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) include solar panels and battery storage.
“It’s just over 1,400 acres, and out of that 1,400 acres, the project has a nameplate capacity of 270 megawatts,” said Derek Eysenbach, project manager at BLM.
This power will be fed to the grid of public services in Arizona and California Independent System Operators to improve energy stability for Southwest consumers.
“By charging these batteries during the day and draining them at night, you can power your calls in around 24 hours,” shared Eysenbach.
Some locals are happy to see clean energy coming to the area and see alternatives to fossil fuels.
Local Brian Jacquinde said, “It’s clean energy and in other cases where you have to rely on coal and gas, it’s better because there’s no pollution and knows the solution will result in many airborne syndromes and illnesses.”
The Elizabeth Solar Project is still in its early stages, but construction is expected to begin in June this year, according to BLM.
