YUMA, Arizona (KECY, KYMA) – This morning, just two weeks before the Arizona primary, the new Yuma County Registrar, Richard Colwell, was sworn in at a meeting of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors.
Recently, after being unanimously elected by the Oversight Board to end Robyn Stallworth Pouquette’s tenure as County Recorder, Richard Colwell has officially assumed the position.
Colwell was sworn in by Superior Court Judge Mark Reeves.
He said he is thrilled to take on this new role.
“It’s exciting, but that reality has now sunk in. Now I have work to do. I have to go to the office, meet the people I met last week, then pack up and learn the ropes.” You have to,” Colwell said.
Colwell’s daughters say they are very proud that their father has taken on this important role in the Yuma community in his retirement.
“I am delighted to see him return from retirement to serve the community again. I serve,” Sister Colwell said.
Colwell will serve as county registrar until December 2024, when he must decide whether to run again.
With the Arizona primary just around the corner, Colwell says he’s looking forward to learning at work.
“It’s going to be a learning experience for me, but as a manager it’s reassuring to know that when there are good people out there doing the right thing, it’s going to be a good and fair election.
Please note that early voting is currently taking place. You can drop your ballot in any drop box in the county or go to the polls on August 2nd.
