Security camera footage released Wednesday shows the moment a suspected drunk driver crashed into a nail salon on Long Island, killing four people and injuring nine.
The incident occurred on June 28th at Hawaii Nail & Spa in Deer Park, New York. according to The newly released video of the incident was posted to Instagram on Wednesday, according to the New York Post.
The video shows the SUV speeding down a busy road, briefly becoming airborne before eventually jumping the curb and crashing into a local nail salon.
Just minutes before the bomb struck the nail salon, an unidentified man was seen leaving a nearby business and getting into his car, seemingly unfazed by the incident, and passersby from nearby businesses were seen rushing outside to see what was happening. According to the New York Post, suspected drunk driver, Steven Schwalli, 64, admitted to police that he had drunk 18 beers before the incident.
Four people were killed in the crash, including off-duty New York Police Department (NYPD) officer Emilia Lenhack, 31, who had reportedly been to a nail salon for a wedding scheduled for later that day.
The other victims who died in the accident were Zhang Mei-zi, 40, Xu Yan, 41, and Chen Jiancai, 37, according to the NYP report. A 12-year-old girl was among the victims injured in the accident.
According to The Washington Post, Schwary was charged with drunk driving on July 1 and is being held on $1 million bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 19.
