More than 400 people are expected to benefit each year from the $10 million investment approved by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. This funding will support low-income families and individuals by expanding affordable housing options in the Chandler area.
“Since housing costs are unlikely to fall to pre-pandemic levels, Maricopa County is funding housing measures to help income-eligible households cope with rising rents,” Maricopa County Board of Supervisors District 4 said Clint Hickman, chairman of the board. This project with the City of Chandler will provide affordable housing options and revitalize vacant land. ”
Funding for this collaborative effort with the City of Chandler comes from federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) appropriations allocated by Maricopa County.
“Finding a safe and affordable place to call home is difficult right now, and many people cannot afford to live in the communities where they work,” said District 1 Vice President Jack Sellers. I am very happy to be able to make this happen.” We help provide housing opportunities for working families struggling in today's market. ”
south hamilton
The $5 million will be used to build an affordable rental housing community on a 7.4-acre site at 73 S. Hamilton Street. Once complete, the newly constructed senior housing community will have an estimated 300 affordable rental units.
All units in this housing development will serve eligible households with incomes at or below 60 percent of Area Median Income (AMI). The community will offer a community room with a co-located nonprofit on-site to serve seniors. Residents can also enjoy walking trails, indoor community spaces, and ramadas.
Villas on McQueen
The second project, which received $5 million in funding through this partnership, is known as Villas on McQueen and will be located on McQueen, just south of Chandler Boulevard. The development will include 157 rental housing units aimed at seniors, veterans, families and people with disabilities. This community serves eligible households with incomes below 60% of his AMI.
In addition to a convenient location near public transportation, recreational facilities, schools, health care providers, public parks, and employment opportunities, Villa on McQueen offers a variety of amenities. Residents will have access to multi-purpose community spaces, playgrounds, ramadas, walking trails and sports courts. Residents will also have access to services such as youth activities, senior services, and employment and career training opportunities.
This $10 million investment to support residents in the Chandler area is part of a series of solutions that Maricopa County has funded along the housing continuum to help people secure housing. For a complete list of housing investments in Maricopa County, visit Maricopa.gov/Housing.
