The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors recently approved an agreement providing more than $3.75 million in funding for additions and renovations to West Valley housing. The project is expected to support 24 families annually and is funded in part by Maricopa County's federal American Rescue Facilities Act (ARPA) funds.
“Maricopa County has made significant investments in housing solutions for our residents over the past two years,” said District 4 Chairman Clint Hickman. “These projects are another step in improving the quality of life for our residents. By allocating more than $3.75 and raising $1 million from ARPA funds, we are not just building homes, we are building hope, stability, and stronger communities in the West Valley.”
These programs aim to improve housing conditions, ensure affordability, and promote sustainable housing development within communities.
“Together with Avondale and Tolleson, we are working to ensure more families have a permanent, safe and affordable place to call home,” said District 5 Superintendent Steve. Gallardo said. They also demonstrate our continued commitment to ensuring a variety of housing options to meet the needs of all types of families. ”
Avondale – $2.75 million
The City of Avondale will use $2.75 million in ARPA funding to build eight new single-family homes for purchase by low-income households. Buyers receive homebuyer counseling and may receive down payment assistance based on their income and financial situation.
Six of the units will be a continuation of an existing infill housing project known as Legacy Avondale, which broke ground in November 2022 and began sales to low-income households in March 2023.
Six of the eight homes are located at 305 and 309 E. Hill Drive in Avondale. Two of the homes are 1,225 square feet, single-story, ADA-compatible, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Four of the units will be his two-story, 1,440-square-foot home with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
Two additional homes will be built as single-family homes on separate lots. These homes are between 1,200 and 1,800 square feet and feature three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One will be built at his 320 E. Hill Drive in Avondale, and the other at his 516 E. Dee Street. These affordable smart homes are built with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind to make your home's operating costs as manageable as possible. These homes will be sold to households with incomes at or below 120% of Area Median Income (AMI).
Tolleson – $1 million
The City of Tolleson will help provide housing rehabilitation and repair services to an estimated 18 owner-occupied homes. The project aims to improve housing conditions and keep housing affordable. Applicants to this program must have resided in a home for one year prior to the application date and have an income of no more than 80% of her AMI.
