Maricopa County is taking a significant step toward addressing pressing housing needs by partnering with the City of Wickenburg to allocate $10 million to an affordable housing project known as Wickenburg Apartments. . The new homes are estimated to be able to support up to 675 people a year.

Maricopa County Board of Supervisors District 4 Chairman Clint Hickman emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “This important collaboration with the City of Wickenburg will help us achieve more by working together.” This investment will have a lasting impact, providing quality housing options for residents for decades to come, as well as acting as a catalyst for further development in Wickenburg. also works.”

A housing needs assessment conducted in August 2022 found that there is a critical need for affordable housing in the area to support the local workforce and attract more families to the area. When it did, the City of Wickenburg took swift action. Officials met with local employers and the community to envision the 15-acre project, located at the southwest corner of Wickenburg Way and Saguaro Drive.

Once complete, the development will consist of 208 units, with a mix of 104 one-bedroom units, 78 two-bedroom units, and 26 three-bedroom units.

Housing will be provided to income-eligible individuals and families with household incomes ranging from 30 to 80 percent of Area Median Income (AMI) ($30,000 to $74,800 per year for a family of four). Residents of Wickenburg Apartments have access to a wide range of amenities, including multipurpose community spaces, playgrounds, walking and biking trails, and outdoor areas for gathering. Local nonprofits work together to enrich the lives of people living in their communities by providing critical services such as financial literacy, job placement, nutrition, and digital literacy programs.

Maricopa County's $10 million contribution to the $68 million development is funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
