News Flash • Maricopa County Provides Grants to Cities for H

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved more than $399,000 in Community Services Block Grants (CSBG) for the cities of Avondale, Chandler, Surprise, Tempe, and Tolleson. Efforts funded through these grants will focus on providing housing and nutritional assistance to individuals and families with income within these communities.

Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Clint Hickman, representing District 4, expressed support for these grants, saying, “These projects will help communities facing critical housing and nutrition needs. “It reflects our continued commitment to supporting people, and through these partnerships we can expand our support.” The impact of these funds will be to create a safer, more stable, and healthier environment for the neighborhoods that need it most. ”

Funding awards include:

  • City of Avondale: $62,500 for Housing Stability Services.
  • City of Chandler: $125,000 for safe and affordable housing.
  • City of Surprise: $125,000 for safe temporary shelter
  • City of Tempe: $62,500 for food/nutrition services.
  • City of Tolleson: $24,750 for food/nutrition services.

Funding for these efforts is provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and administered by the Maricopa County Department of Human Services. The overarching goal of this funding is to reduce poverty and help low-income families and individuals become self-reliant.
