Visitors to Mesa's Firefighters Memorial, Historical Society and Ideas Museum will soon be able to enjoy an even more memorable experience, thanks to renovation funding approved June 26 by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

“These three facilities and gathering spaces honor our first responders, educate our youth and instill community pride,” said Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin, who represents District 2 on the Board of Supervisors. “They highlight our city's rich history, inspire future generations and introduce them to the wonders of the larger world. Through this investment, Maricopa County is improving the quality of life for Mesa residents and the greater East Valley region.”

The board will contribute $100,000 toward renovations to the Firefighters Memorial, $50,000 to replace six air conditioning units for the Mesa Historical Society's auditorium renovations, and $200,000 to update various interactive exhibits at the Mesa Ideas Museum.

“This is a significant investment to improve some of Mesa's most beloved community spaces,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles. “I am extremely grateful to the Board for all their work on behalf of the City and want to thank Vice Chairman Galvin for spearheading this effort. I look forward to Mesa residents and visitors enjoying the renovations once completed.”

The improvements will be funded with $350,000 in Maricopa County Community Solutions funds allocated by Vice Chairman Galvin through Dec. 31, 2024. The Commission’s Community Solutions funds are intended to help advance Maricopa County’s strategic goals and provide tangible public benefits to Maricopa County residents.
