Coolidge, Arizona — Three months after completing its acquisition of battery maker Romeo Power, Phoenix-based zero-emission automaker Nikola Corporation announced it would move its battery manufacturing operations to Arizona.
The move will move these operations from Romeo’s home base of Cypress, Calif., to Nicola’s plant in Coolidge, Pinal County, south of Phoenix.
Nikola said the aim is to bring truck assembly, fuel cell power module assembly, battery module and pack production under one roof. According to the company, it will also include automating the battery line with quality and efficiency in mind.
“This decision reinforces our commitment to finding ways to optimize our cost structure and create sustainable business models,” said Nikola President and CEO Michael Lohscheller in a statement. . “We remain focused on achieving our 2023 milestones, including our pack and module production targets.”
