‘No credible information’ on bomb threat in Maricopa County

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says the information contained in this threat is similar to threats made across the country and in other counties in Arizona.

Maricopa County, Aricopa County – A bomb threat was reported at Maricopa County Superior Court in downtown Phoenix, but “there is no reliable information regarding the matter,” the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.

“This is a national and state trend we are seeing in bomb threats,” MCSO told 12News. “The information contained in the threatening letter was similar in other areas of the county.”

Four polling places in Navajo County also received bomb threats earlier today.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said these are baseless threats.

“There is no reason to believe that voters or polling places are in any danger,” Fontes said. His 3 p.m. news briefing.

Fontes said at a news conference that there is reason to believe the threat was made by a Russian actor.

“But we believe that the reason they are doing this is to cause chaos and try to rattle us,” Fontes said.

At a subsequent press conference, Fontes said that while the emailed bomb threat was sent from a .RU email address, that did not necessarily mean the threat was sent from Russia.

“This does not necessarily mean that these are coming from Russia. There is no confirmation that the .RU addresses used in these bomb threat emails are coming directly from the Russian Federation,” Fontes said. . “The motive appears to be to cause confusion and not to influence a political outcome.”

MCSO said it and its local partners “take this matter seriously and will investigate.”
