st. clouds (WJON News) — A North Dakota woman has been charged with burning down a Stearns County man’s home.
40 years old Jamie Morin Warpeton’s defendants are charged with first-degree arson on a residence.
Stearns County Sheriff’s Office
The sheriff’s deputy was called to a house on 248th Street in Cline Township shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday due to a house fire. When deputies arrived, they found the house completely engulfed in flames and black smoke rising from the attic.
The lieutenant contacted Morin, who, according to court records, admitted that she had started the fire and that no one was inside. When her lieutenant asked her why and how she started the fire, she was kidnapped and allegedly commented on using her propane torch.
A homeowner arrived at the scene and told agents that he had met the woman in North Dakota and brought her back to Minnesota to live with her. They were together for about a month.
The owner said he went to work on Thursday and left Morin at home. He didn’t realize the house was on fire until his neighbor called to warn him.
Evidence found at the scene by the State Fire Marshal matched the woman’s story of how the fire started.
The house is considered a complete loss.
