On Thursday, the Alabama Republican Party formally supported a legislative amendment proposed by Democrats to ensure that President Joe Biden is certified according to a deadline set by the Alabama Secretary of State. Alabama's certification deadline is Aug. 15, 2024. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to begin on Aug. 19, 2024.
Secretary of State Wes Allen drew attention to the issue in a letter to state and national Democratic Party officials and pledged to comply with the law by not certifying any party candidates filed after the Aug. 15, 2024 deadline.
On Wednesday, the Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee and the Alabama House Constitution and Campaign Committee advanced companion bills to resolve the timeline issue legislatively, as both parties have done in past elections.
Today, the Alabama Republican Party announced it supports the rigging “despite the Biden campaign's failure to meet the state's election deadline.”
“It is essential that we maintain the integrity of our election system and respect voters' right to select their preferred candidate in the general election. Unlike the divisive tactics employed by Democrats to keep Donald Trump off the ballot, the Alabama Republican Party firmly believes in upholding the principles of democratic elections and that voters have the final say,” Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wall said in a statement Thursday.

Wall noted a brief, politically motivated attempt by Colorado officials to block former President Trump from appearing on the state's election ballot that was ultimately overturned by a unanimous decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
“We reject Democrats' attempts to subvert our electoral process and deprive voters of their right to make an informed decision at the ballot box. Let me be clear: it is Democrats, not Republicans, who use government power to target political opponents. In stark contrast, the Republican Party believes in fairness and integrity, and we are committed to protecting voters and protecting their right to freely choose their representatives without interference or manipulation,” Wall said.
“The Alabama Republican Party is not intimidated by the competition and welcomes the opportunity to engage with the Biden campaign on the issues that matter most to Alabama voters. Republicans support individual liberty, border security, protecting children from socialist indoctrination, and economic opportunity for all our citizens.”
A legislative solution proposed by state Sen. Merika Coleman (D-Birmingham) and House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels (D-Huntsville) could be voted on in both chambers as early as next Tuesday.
“We firmly believe that Republican values and principles and our candidate best represent the people of Alabama, and we are confident that Donald Trump will defeat Joe Biden in November,” Wahl added.
