One of liberal media’s most pretentious writers suffered a perennial turmoil Wednesday morning after former president and now president-elect Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris.
Even before Tuesday’s election results were in, The Atlantic was in full swing, with one of its staff writers discussing ways to reduce the anxiety caused by such close, high-stakes races. The journalist was essentially preparing his spoiled readers for a sinister case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) if Kamala were to lose. Now, in a gloriously ironic twist, another Atlantic writer, Tom Nichols, says: Looks like it’s raining Living with the very same mental anguish, we learned nothing from our colleagues, such as taking a walk, refraining from apocalyptic thinking, and eating food to soothe our souls, and what we cannot change: the will of the American people. was to accept it. This is Nichols breaking down in tears on the digital pages of The Atlantic (a nod to how warped his brain has become since he made his brand of journalism all about scolding ordinary Americans who don’t agree with his deeply held opinions). It’s worth reading a good portion of this article to find out what happened (about American Democracyâ„¢ and what’s best for the country):
The urge to take on responsibilities can be overwhelming because there are so many of them. When the history of this dark moment is written, there will be those responsible, not just those who voted for Trump, but those who did not vote out of selfish grievances or who voted for independent or third-party candidates. Easily gullible Americans will also be included.

The actions that would stop President Trump from destroying America in 2025 are the same ones that stopped many of his plans in the first place. These are not flashy and will require continued attention. Because the next battle for democracy will be fought by lawyers and legislators in Washington and every statehouse. These issues will be fought by citizens united in associations and movements to rouse others from the sleepwalking that has brought America to this moment.
Trump’s victory is a dark day for the United States and for democracies around the world. You have the right to be surprised, sad, shocked, and frightened. But soon you need to dust yourself off, square your shoulders, and take a deep breath. Americans who value democracy have work to do.
He’s like, oh, he’s not feeling well to say the least. And he continues to support this nation even as tens of millions of Americans peacefully vote to elect Trump and oust the motherfuckers who have been running this show since 2021. seems to be implying that this is the most democratic and citizen-oriented thing that can be done. All these compatriots don’t care about democracy. Of course this is not true. Otherwise, they would not have voted at all or violently seized power.
For people like Tom Nichols, democracy means that their preferred candidate wins. For Tom Nichols, democracy means everyone living in America agreeing with him. If it’s not, if it’s not Tom Nichols’ worldview and policies, it’s not a democracy. It’s fascism.
