Dr. Donna Guerra Elected President of Alabama Federation of Nursing
Dr. Donna Guerra, a clinical associate professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, has been elected as the president of the Alabama Federation of Nursing (ALN).
Having been a member of ALN for a decade, Guerra was nominated before officially taking on the role in 2023. The organization aims to enhance nursing services and education throughout Alabama.
“I really believe in the values of ALN. Its mission aligns perfectly with what I do as a nurse educator,” Guerra expressed. “It’s a privilege to lead at this time, especially during the transition to becoming a nursing member of the NLN Alliance of League. I’m excited about promoting nursing education and inspiring my colleagues across the state to engage in our efforts.”
Guerra’s term will last for two years, during which she will continue her previous role as former president. Her focus will be on strengthening ALN’s newly evolved relationship with the national organization.
“In 2024, the National Association of Nursing, along with the National Federation, restructured connections with state component leagues and established a nursing league alliance,” Guerra noted. “This move was partly aimed at better addressing the needs of local components within the state. ALN is eager to be part of this alliance and collaborate with organizations from other states.”
The annual Spring Conference is on the horizon, where awards and scholarships will be distributed, emphasizing the importance of education and research.
ALN actively supports nursing education in various ways. The Excellence in Teaching Award highlights educators who have crafted and executed innovative educational strategies, particularly those based on outcome measurements and therapeutic nursing approaches.
Additionally, the ALN Lamplighter Award honors individuals dedicated to achieving league goals and recognizes those who have made considerable contributions to society or displayed exceptional performance within the nursing profession.
The organization also invites speakers to discuss contemporary issues in nursing. Furthermore, five scholarships will be awarded to those who successfully pass the Certified Nursing Educator Examination provided by the National League.
