“It’s not going to work for them because people see through it. They see the politicization of it. And I saw this for the first time in the days of Enron. They tried to pin Republicans for corporate America’s actions,” Luntz said. “If you seem to be doing it for political reasons, they will reject you. If you seem to be doing it for the true health, safety and happiness of Americans, they will accept you.
“These Democrats who proudly declare that they are resistance are not helping their party,” he continued. “In fact, they’re helping their parties fail. They make sure the parties focus on the wrong issues, the wrong language, the wrong way.”
Lunz said in February that he previously supported the Democratic presidential candidate, but voters who supported Trump in 2024 were actively responding to the rapid pace of his second administration.
“They love the pace of change, so they’re responding to it. They’ve been very tired of the past four years. They wanted action. They wanted results. They saw the price,” Luntz said at the time. “They saw affordable prices. They saw immigrants. And they had nothing happened. They don’t like what he says yet, but they like what he’s doing.”
“They wanted to see a wasteful Washington spending cuts, and they see that. So what they say to me is, ‘I want him to be a little rude,’ but at the same time, they like what he’s doing,” he added. “They believe he’s serious about it.”
Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has argued that claim Website A reduction in government spending of an estimated $100 billion, including labor cuts.
When Keilar said in the February segment that Luntz’s remarks signaled a “large call for Democrats to wake up,” voters retorted, saying they were “waiting for them to receive the message.”
“I’m waiting for them to unite and realize that it’s opposition and resistance. That’s what some of them use that phrase. That’s not what grassroots community Democrats want from them,” he continued. “They may not want the approach that Trump is doing… but they want to take action, and we don’t see any action from Democrats.”
