Walter Ringfield pleaded guilty to one count of computer tampering with theft of a security key from the Maricopa County Election Center in June 2024, and pleaded guilty to three separate theft charges.
PHOENIX (CN) – An Arizona man pleaded guilty from the Maricopa County Election Center Tuesday morning and pleaded guilty to three other thefts dating back to 2023.
Walterlingfield, 27, had a temporary job at the county’s major election tally center when he was caught up in a camera stealing straps from his desk on June 20, 2024.

Prosecutors initially raised the felony to Class 2. This could potentially be carried in prison for up to 35 years, as the computer he tampered with is intended to access “critical infrastructure resources.” However, the level was reduced as part of Ringfield’s legal agreement.
County officials said at the time it would cost at least $20,000 to reprogram the voting tally machine and security FOB.

He was also arrested at a Fry grocery store in 2023, where he stole more than $1,000 in cash while employed there. Surveillance footage shows him pocketing cash directly from customers in several transactions. He pleaded guilty to one count of unspecified theft.
As he participated in the theft charge detour program, Maricopa County election officials said his criminal history was not flagged when he was hired at the election center.
In total, Ringfield is sentenced to 20 years in prison, faces 14 years on probation and a $600,000 fine.
He is scheduled to be declared March 5th at 10am in Phoenix.
