Tucson – (KVOA) New immigrant and asylum seeker facilities are coming into use south of Tucson.
This facility is operated by Catholic Community Services. Casa Aritas and volunteers.
“This was just recently established,” said Adelita Grijalva, chairman of the Pima County Supervisory Board. “There are cribs, there are air intake spaces, there are places where people get medical care, everyone is tested for COVID, clothes, showers, things like that are done there, travel arrangements are made. increase.”
Grijalva toured facilities near I-19 and Drexel Rd. Friday, just 6 days before Title 42 expires.
“I’m really confident that we have a plan in place,” Grijalva said. “I don’t know if any county, city or state can say they’re ready for that issue.”
Grijalva told News 4 Tucson that at the moment it is mainly asylum seekers from El Salvador and India who are being processed through the new immigration centre.
According to Grijalva, about 400 people are treated at the shelter every day.
“Only a few people [are] Coming from Mexico at this point,” she said. And our final destination is not Tucson and we are very concerned about the number of people that may come and our ability to handle it. Since then, I am confident that we are all working together on a solution.”
Grijalva told News 4 that Tucson, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs will tour the shelter on Tuesday.
