Pima County issues ‘Dust Action Day’ Tuesday

Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — Due to Monday’s high winds, Pima County is implementing a Dust Pollution Advisory, or “Dust Prevention Day,” on Tuesday, April 4.

The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) says people who are sensitive to dust should stay indoors if possible, avoid exposure to the outside air, and reduce their level of physical activity outdoors. This includes children, the elderly, and those with heart or lung disease.

At 10:00 AM, PDEQ data showed the worst air quality in the Tucson Basin in Corona de Tucson, and poor conditions in Midtown and Northwest near Casas Advis.

Updated terms available at PDEQ websiteAir quality is showing signs of improvement between 9am and 10am.

PDEQ urges people to avoid the following activities today to reduce dust pollution:

  • Burning fireplace and wood stove
  • Burning leaves, garbage, and other materials
  • Use gas lawn and garden equipment
  • Using leaf blowers
  • Driving an off-highway vehicle
  • Drive over 25 mph on dirt roads
