Pima County puts new anti-fraud system in place

The Pima County Registrar’s Office allows you to opt-in to receive alerts when your name is used on documents submitted.

This free service sends residents automated email alerts when paperwork with their name is submitted to the Pima County Registrar’s Office.

The service was approved by the Pima County Board of Supervisors in May 2022 to serve as an early warning of potential fraud to residents.

This year, Congress asked all counties to implement a similar system by January 1, 2025.

Arizona counties are eligible for state funding to implement protections. There is no funding for counties that have already started using or installing systems.

Pima County will not receive funding because the Registrar’s Office had been working on developing an email service for nearly a year before the bill was approved.

“Many safeguards have been put in place to prevent documents from being fraudulently recorded, and we have never encountered this problem at our office. I have decided that I want to offer this as a courtesy to the family,” said Pima County Registrar Gabriela Cazares-Kelly.
