The Arizona Department of Public Safety today began operations on February 20 to conduct inspections of commercial vehicles on two interstate highways for dangerous driving violations.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies participate in Operation Southern Shield’s DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force, which runs through Friday, February 24.
Operations will be on Interstate 10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico border and on Interstate 19 from Tucson to the border.
The task force is made up of troopers from the DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Agency and officers from the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Enforcement and Compliance Division.
“The focus of this operation is to target dangerous driving violations, conduct commercial vehicle inspections, and educate drivers on safe and compliant operations to reduce collisions involving commercial vehicles,” said DPS. said in a release.
Non-commercial vehicles driving unsafely will also be stopped, they said.
In addition to the support from Pinal County, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Marana, Oro Valley, and Tucson police departments will participate in Operation Southern Shield.
