Pinal County deputy shoots, kills man on dirt bike

An investigation by the sheriff’s office has been launched in the shooting of a man Thursday night by a Pinal County lieutenant.

A Pinal County lieutenant shot and killed a man Thursday night while conducting a field interview after he pulled out a gun.

according to Facebook post, around 7 p.m., a deputy at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a field interview with a man identified as 36-year-old Michael Obregon. The men were riding dirt bikes near West Mescalero and North Hualapai Drive.

Lauren Rymer, a spokesperson for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, told the Republic of Arizona that the field interview was conducted after a lieutenant observed Obregón speeding through the area.

During the interview, Obregón drew his gun and the lieutenant fired at Obregón. According to the sheriff’s office, sheriffs immediately sent help and called for medical personnel, but Obregón was pronounced dead at the scene. The unnamed agent was not injured.

According to the post, Obregón was later found to have a valid felony warrant for parole violations. The dirt bike was found stolen, according to the sheriff’s office.

No other information was released, so the investigation into the shooting continued.
