Pinal County issues state of emergency following monsoon storm

Pinal County A state of emergency was declared following a strong monsoon that cut power to thousands of people in the area.

The county held an emergency meeting Tuesday afternoon to address the power outage and remaining damage.

Arizona Public Service said Monday it is taking longer than usual to restore power due to severe damage from Sunday’s storm.

Utility crews are busy removing damaged equipment, digging new holes, installing new utility poles, and replacing wires.

“It will take time, but please know that our crew is working around the clock to get our customers back,” APS wrote in a statement. and monitor outage maps and look for cooling and thermal mitigation resources as needed.”

Officials say declaring a state of emergency is a procedure that allows counties and cities to access additional resources and support from the state of Arizona.The city of Eloy issued a state of emergency yesterday.

The ongoing power outages occurred during the midsummer months, with extreme heat reported throughout Arizona.

Several cooling centers have been installed and ice is distributed as long as the supply lasts.

Power should be fully restored by early Wednesday morning, according to APS.
