Phoenix police continue to investigate the Christmas Eve shooting that left three people dead, including the alleged gunman, David DeNitto. He was the widow of former Maricopa County Attorney Alistair Adell.
Police said De Nitto killed his girlfriend, Marialice Cash, and her mother, Cynthia Domini, then turned the gun on himself.
Phoenix Police Sergeant Philip Krinsky said there was an argument before the shooting.
“The investigation is still ongoing, but early information is that Cash and De Nitto were in a relationship,” he said. “There was a holiday gathering at the home and an argument reportedly occurred before the shooting occurred.”
Adel resigned as county attorney in March 2022 after a drunken incident was discovered. She died less than a month later from health complications.
Adell's successor, County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, released a statement following Sunday's shooting, saying the tragedy was impossible to comprehend.
“We ask the community to join us in praying for the families affected, especially Mr. Alistair's children,” Mitchell added.
