(central square) – Confidence in elections appears to be relatively high overall, according to a new poll, as election issues continue to be a hot topic in Arizona.

Overall, 37% are “very confident”, 18% are “somewhat confident” and 17% are “somewhat confident” about the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections. Conversely, 17% said they were “not very confident” and 11% said they were “not at all confident.”

By party, 59% of Democrats are very confident, compared to just 8% who don’t feel confident. Meanwhile, only 19% of Republicans are highly confident, 45% are not, and 21% are not confident at all.

Among independents, who make up about one-third of the state’s registered voters, 71% expressed varying degrees of confidence, and 10% expressed no confidence. Notably, 20% say they are “not very confident,” which is closer to 24% of Republicans than 5% of Democrats.

The poll came as Republican Kari Lake, who lost to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court to lose her election case.

On Election Day 2022, printer issues in Maricopa County delayed voting for in-person voters and contributed to subsequent lawsuits. None of the lawsuits overturned the outcome.

Republican Maricopa County reporter Steven Richer tweeted about the results, saying, “Wow! Overall confidence is 75%.” “I hope it’s 100%, but I’m glad we’re making progress. I’m glad we were able to put this issue on the back burner.”

Maricopa County was the center of scrutiny and election fraud allegations before the midterm elections after President Joe Biden’s narrow victory over former President Donald Trump in Arizona in 2020.

The survey was conducted on 1,000 registered voters in Arizona between January 31st and February 9th with a margin of error of 3.1%.
