Potential Maricopa County property tax increase on table

A public meeting is scheduled for later this month regarding the proposed Maricopa County Community College District property tax increase.

Districts have released 2023-24 Budget Truth and Tax Information. This indicates a slight increase in overall tax rates. This school district is one of the largest in the United States with 10 schools and her over 220,000 students.

The district “intends” to raise its primary property tax above last year’s level – a 2.86% increase, the announcement said.

The increase is approximately $16 million. According to the district, residents see an increase of about $3 for every $100,000 home valued.

“For example, the proposed tax increase would result in a major property tax of $107.91 (total of proposed taxes including the tax increase) on a $100,000 home in the Maricopa County Community College District,” the announcement said. . “Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes owed on a $100,000 home would be $104.91.”

The proposed increase does not include the primary property tax increase received from new construction, according to the announcement. This increase also excludes “changes that may result from voter-approved bonded debt or the imposition of property taxes on the budget” and tax preference.

The meeting will be held on May 23 at 6:30 pm at the Conference Center of Rio Salado College, 2323 West 14th Street, Tempe.
