A power outage in Santa Cruz County plunged nearly 20,000 people into darkness Wednesday morning.
According to Unisource’s outage map, the outage started around 4am and affected all the way from Amado to Nogales.
Schools in Santa Cruz County have been canceled due to power outages. Both the Nogales Unified School District and the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District have announced that there will be no classes on Wednesday.
Nogales City offices and services will also be closed until power is restored. The Nogales Police Department and Fire Department will remain open.
Unisource said its employees are working as quickly as possible to restore power.
“The crew is working to repair power lines that serve approximately 20,000 customers in Nogales, Rio Rico and surrounding areas,” Unisource said. Additional repairs may take up to 2pm or longer. ”
