BULLHEAD CITY — A new program will help Mohave County's future leaders learn the basics of campaigning and what happens once they're elected, whether they're seeking a seat in the state legislature or city council or a school district board seat. The Mohave County Chamber of Commerce and Realtors Association are partnering to host a Future Leaders Forum on January 30th at the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dana Walter, CEO of the Bullhead City Mohave Valley Association of Realtors, said this is the first year the forum will be held in Mohave County. He said it is based on a program put together by the National Association of Realtors and has been offered in the past by some of the major real estate agent associations.
“It's definitely aimed specifically at protecting private property rights, water rights and things that revolve around real estate,” Walter said. “But I’m also expanding my horizons to serving on community boards and being a community leader.”
In addition to information on running a successful campaign, this forum will also cover things newly elected officials and board members need to know, such as Robert's Rules of Order.
Walter said representatives from the National Association of Realtors will present part of the curriculum for becoming a director of local and state political programs and committees. The Arizona Association of Realtors will also have representatives from its Government Affairs and Legislative Political Affairs teams make presentations.
In addition to representatives from all three parties, the panel also includes former Bullhead Mayor Tom Brady, current Bullhead Mayor Steve D'Amico, Lake Havasu Mayor Cal Sheehy, and Yucaipa, California Mayor Justin Bieber.
