ProgressPAC supports new candidates for election to the Alabama legislature

Progress PAC Endorses First-Time Candidates for 2026 Legislative Cycle

Progress PAC, the political arm of the Business Council of Alabama, has announced its support for three newcomers running in the 2026 legislative elections. The candidates are Alicia Escott Lumpkin from House District 60, Jessica Massey Ross from House District 65, and Doug Harwell from Senate District 34.

The BCA highlighted that these candidates exhibit a strong commitment to the pro-growth and pro-jobs principles that both BCA and Progress PAC advocate. They are expected to introduce new voices and perspectives in Congress.

Helena Duncan, the BCA President and CEO, mentioned, “We believe the future of Alabama’s economy relies on bold, purpose-driven leaders who will be effective partners for our business community.” She noted that while their original nominees represented established business leaders currently in Congress, the new nominees reflect the same dedication to economic growth. “Alicia, Jessica, and Doug embody the entrepreneurial spirit and business-friendly vision essential for their districts,” she added.

Gary Smith, Chairman of Progress PAC, stated, “Identifying and nurturing pro-business champions is crucial. These candidates bring fresh ideas and energy, and we’re excited to see them contribute to Alabama as a more competitive state. We’re proud to support them and invest early in their campaigns.”

Alicia Escott Lumpkin, who has been a community advocate in Birmingham for many years, holds a J.D. from Birmingham Law School and has spent the last 17 years working for the City of Birmingham. Progress PAC noted her successful engagement with local employers and her knack for balancing economic growth with quality of life improvements.

Jessica Massey Ross boasts over two decades of experience as a nonprofit leader with a focus on education, workforce training, and community involvement. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama, where she also teaches, and her research centers on rural infrastructure and sustainable community development.

Doug Harwell is an established business owner and a former member of the Mobile County Board of Education. Progress PAC pointed out that his practical, forward-thinking approach toward regional competitiveness and commitment to pro-jobs initiatives make him a valuable asset for Alabama’s business sector.
