Rare tornado warning expires in Yavapai County; storms hit parts of Arizona

Phoenix (AZ Family) — The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado warning for parts of Yavapai County east of Interstate 17 on Saturday.

The tornado warning was lifted at 7:45 p.m., but Arizona's Family First Alert Weather Team said Doppler radar predicted heavy rain near Cornville and thunderstorms east of Black Canyon Lake and Bumble Bee.

Additionally, Phoenix could break records this weekend with consecutive days with temperatures over 100 degrees.

Sunday will mark the 77th day that temperatures have reached 100 degrees or higher. The previous record for consecutive days with temperatures above 100 degrees was 76 days in the summer of 1993.

Starting tomorrow and into the week, temperatures will drop below 110 degrees and gradually approach average temperatures for this time of year.

Thunderstorm activity on Saturday is expected to continue across the state's higher elevations, with a 20 percent chance of storms developing in the Valley region on Saturday and Sunday evening, although an outflow boundary could kick up dust and bring strong winds.

A chance of storms is still forecast for the start of the week as moisture pushes in on Sunday morning, bringing the risk of heavy rain, flying dust and strong winds.

High temperatures are expected to reach near 106 on Sunday and 105 on Monday before remaining below 110 degrees throughout the week.
