The Arizona Department of Sports and Tourism (AZSTA) awarded a record $5.2 million to 36 organizations promoting youth and amateur sports programs throughout Maricopa County.
Grants were provided to organizations in 12 communities in Avondale, Chandler, El Mirage, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.
This grant will help fund a series of countywide projects, including new lighting for Frank Bowman Field in Maryvale’s Cartwright School District No. 83. A new pickleball facility in the Avondale Elementary School District. Gym renovation work at SAGU American Indian College in downtown Phoenix. A new community playground has opened at Mountain Park Health Center in Glendale. Upgraded athletic facilities at Westwood High School in Mesa.
Since its inception in 2001, AZSTA has distributed more than $32 million to fund more than 600 projects throughout Maricopa County through youth and amateur sports grants, meeting AZSTA’s enablement laws.
“AZSTA is proud to support these worthy non-profit organizations that improve the lives of people throughout Maricopa County through youth and amateur sports,” said AZSTA President Teddy Eynon. “AZSTA, which has distributed more than $32 million in grants since 2001, continues to deliver on the promise Maricopa County voters made when they approved Proposition 302.”
Grant Recipients Demonstrated Maricopa County’s Financial Needs, Funds Leveraged, Community Partnerships, and Benefits to Local Communities Prioritized Youth Recreation Facilities Close to or Benefiting Public Schools .
“This fund will help the 2023 AZSTA Youth and Amateur Sports Grant Recipients as they carry out their mission in our communities,” said Kim Sabou, Chairman of the AZSTA Youth and Amateur Sports Commission. said. “We are fortunate to have many exemplary nonprofits, schools and municipalities, and are honored to partner with them to make a difference in the lives of so many Arizonans. .”

AZSTA was formed as a result of voter approval of Proposition 302 in November 2000 and is responsible for owning and operating State Farm Stadium. Funds tourism promotion in Maricopa County.
