Record $5.2M granted to support youth, amateur sports in Maricopa County

The Arizona Department of Sports and Tourism has distributed more than $32 million in grants since voters approved Proposition 302.

The Arizona Department of Sports and Tourism (AZSTA) awarded a record $5.2 million to 36 organizations promoting youth and amateur sports programs throughout Maricopa County.

Grants were provided to organizations in 12 communities in Avondale, Chandler, El Mirage, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.

Grants help fund a variety of projects throughout the county. Since its inception in 2001, AZSTA has distributed more than $32 million to fund more than 600 projects throughout Maricopa County through youth and amateur sports grants, meeting AZSTA’s enablement laws.

“AZSTA is proud to support these worthy non-profit organizations that improve the lives of people throughout Maricopa County through youth and amateur sports,” said AZSTA President Teddy Eynon. “AZSTA, which has distributed more than $32 million in grants since 2001, continues to deliver on the promise Maricopa County voters made when they approved Proposition 302.”
