Congressman Grijalva Announces $2.5 Million for Wildfire Planning and Mitigation in the AZ-07 Area

WASHINGTON – This week, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a $250 million investment. 158 projects As part of the second round of funding under the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program. This program helps at-risk, low-income communities plan for and reduce wildfire risk. While serving as Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, Congressman Raul M. Grijalva helped pass the $1 billion, five-year CWDG program as part of the bipartisan Infrastructure Act.

Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) issued the following statement:

“I applaud the Biden Administration’s latest investments to manage wildfire risk and promote resilient and safe communities in Arizona and across the country, which will worsen as climate change intensifies. These federal funds are necessary and important to help mitigate the impact.” said Rep. Grijalva. “As the top Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee, I will continue to advocate for Arizonans, our communities, and address our shared climate crisis.”

Seven federal funding recipientsth Arizona includes:

  • Tucson Audubon Society, Santa Cruz County, Arizona – $2,364,129
  • Cochise County Emergency Management, Cochise County, Arizona – $135,000
  • Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Santa Cruz County, Arizona – $178,160
