Since President Biden took office, More than 7 million illegal crossings our southern border and 1.7 million known vacations Those who escaped U.S. border security.
Under the watchful eye of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, our nation's borders have been ceded to drug cartels, which have recently sparked a fentanyl crisis, according to the CDC. 112,000 people died for the first time in 12 months.
Millions of illegal immigrants are being released into American communities, with trial dates scheduled for the next decade. This system is broken and leaves Americans vulnerable to preventable crimes.
House Republicans passed it in May. HR 2, Border Security Actas a comprehensive bill to complete the wall, repeal the catch-and-release policy, reinstate the Remain in Mexico program, and hire more Customs and Border Protection agents.
However, the Senate has refused to act on this important bill. Instead, they have spent months cutting backroom deals that make no difference at the border. They could pass border security legislation and send it to the president. But they haven't. And they don't.
President Joe Biden is trying to deflect attention from his own failures by pointing the finger of blame back at Congress. However, unlike Biden's recent comments, he has all the authority necessary to secure the border. He could simply reverse executive actions taken during his first 100 days in office to repeal President Trump's border policies. Policies we know work.
But House Republicans are not relenting. Despite the apathy shown by the White House and Senate Democrats, we are committed to a decisive response to repair our broken border.
In January, The Homeland Security Committee voted Formalize articles of impeachment against Mayorkas for “failure to comply with existing law and violation of public trust.” It is clear that his dereliction of duty continues to escalate the border crisis that puts Americans at risk. This has to stop. I strongly support impeaching Mayorkas if the House votes on it this week.
Last week, I voted for several important bills to alleviate the Biden border crisis and ensure accountability for criminal illegal immigration. Two of the most important are: Investigator Raul Gonzalez Police Officer Safety Act And that Laws to protect communities from drunk driving. These measures ensure the safety of our communities and ensure that illegal immigrants do not receive preferential treatment. They can break our laws with impunity. Protecting our communities must be our top priority.
Americans are tired of excuses. They're tired of talking about border security. They want action. I urge the Senate and the President to do the job the American people elected them to do and help us see these common-sense measures through.
