RiverScene Magazine | Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild Display Arizona-Themed Quilts At City Hall

Written by Janet Crews

Lake Havasu City Hall is home to many unique quilts with many beautiful patterns sewn into them.

The quilt was created by the Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild. Members of the group participated in the “Arizona Dreaming” challenge, where they were asked to create a quilt in shades of blue and beige to resemble the state of Arizona.

“Each member was tasked with using a specific fabric to create a landscape or scene representing the state,” said Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild member Tanya Braun.

The quilt measures 20 x 20 inches and is known as a “challenge quilt.” These quilts are a preview of what's in store for the Quilt Show, which will be held at the Lake Havasu Aquatic Center on February 2nd and 3rd.

It will include a challenge quilt,” said Barb Withers, president and co-president of the Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild.

In addition to putting on a show each year, the guild also offers classes and education to stitchers new and old. Members also provide quilts to nursing home residents and cancer treatment centers with pockets for cancer patients to grab while undergoing chemotherapy.

The Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild invites non-members to participate in preparing sewing items and kits for the Community Outreach Program held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Aquatic Center.

The quilt will be on display at City Hall until January 22nd. The show, themed “Bridges of Friendship center. Show attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite “Arizona Dreaming” themed quilt at the February 2024 Quilt His Show.
