RYAN: LGBTQ Charter Schools Indoctrinate Kids At Taxpayer Expense — And Not Just in Blue States

Americans understand that a portion of our tax dollars goes toward maintaining our K-12 public school system and ensuring that our nation's children receive an education. However, many Americans may not know exactly what kind of education their children are receiving.

it was recently reported A proposed LGBTQ-themed charter school in Brooklyn, New York, would provide children in grades five through nine with “the needs and voices of transgender, nonbinary, queer, and supportive students, teachers, and parents.” They will be placed in a “gender-ful environment'' that prioritizes the ” says the school’s “proud” non-binary founder. The school, Miss Major Middle (named after a Black transgender activist), caters to students who “want to explore, learn, challenge, change, and move within and beyond the boundaries of masculinity and femininity.” I will accept it.

While it may be tempting to dismiss such creations as simply the latest example of New York City's liberal excesses, Parents Defending Education (PDE) investigated Several other public charter schools in red and purple states were established specifically for students who identify as LGBTQ or “allies.” We discovered that these schools actually teach gender ideology and receive large amounts of tax money to operate without regard to taxpayer values.

Public charter schools are tuition-free public schools that often operate independently of school districts but still receive state and federal funding. LGBTQ-themed charter schools are a relatively new concept, and as mentioned above, some schools already exist in blue states like California and New York. But they also exist in more conservative-leaning states.

One notable example is Magic City Acceptance Academy (MCAA) in Homewood, Alabama.

MCAA describes itself as a “brave learning environment and LGBTQ-affirming culture for all.” In other words, if a child wishes to transition to a different gender, the school will “approve” that transition. The school is known for prominently displaying rainbows in support of LGBTQ issues, and boasts that six of the school's 12 board members “identify as LGBTQ.” .

The school's fiscal year 2023 budget includes about $2.9 million in state funds and about $660,000 in federal funds, according to PDE research. This is taxpayer money that could be used for other schools in Alabama that prioritize a good education.

Another LGBTQ-themed public charter school is Albert Einstein Academy (AEA) of Ohio, specifically its Lakewood campus. The charter school is pursuing a “National LGBTQ+ Allies School” “partnership agreement” with several other LGBTQ public charter schools, including MCAA and Alliance School of Milwaukee. The partnership is a political “movement” in which these public schools aim to combat a “hostile political climate” and support each other in furthering their mission to “affirm” the LGBTQ identities of their students. He clearly explains what he thinks is the case.

Charter schools received about $700,000 in federal funding, according to the AEA annual report for the 2022-2023 school year. The school received about $3.7 million in state funding and about $260,000 in federal funding during the 2019-2020 school year, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics. This does not seem like a hostile political situation at all.

Alliance School in Milwaukee is a rare public charter school that is part of a larger school district, having also signed partnerships with the AEA and MCAA. Milwaukee Public Schools in Wisconsin has policy Continuing to hide a student's gender identity from their parents.

Alliance School also partners with the local Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. Intended for children up to 13 years old Online spaces labeled 'confidential'. The school's budget for the 2023-2024 school year is approximately $2.3 million, compared to the district's budget of $1.5 billion.

PDE investigation I also discovered a “Queer Blended Learning Center” in Arizona. This is a program for LGBTQ students created in partnership with Arizona Virtual Academy, an online public charter school.

Uplift Education in Texas is a public charter school system that claims to have more than 23,000 students and is part of the Out for Safe Schools program, which advocates for the “safety, inclusion, and celebration of LGBTQ individuals.”

Even in states where you wouldn't normally expect to see such crazy scenes, the federal and state governments have been forced to use public schools established for the express purpose of indoctrinating children into dangerous cult-like ideologies. It provides subsidies to schools.

Americans struggling to pay their bills are right to be outraged that their elected officials are so recklessly wasting their tax dollars. Our country faces trillions in debt and out-of-control spending, and our nation's children We're screwed Learning the basics in the classroom – funding indoctrination centers disguised as schools should be the last thing taxpayers are forced to do.
