Santa Cruz County Officials Advise Residents Not to Travel Unless of Emergency – NBC Bay Area

Santa Cruz County officials Friday asked residents to cancel all travel plans except for emergencies because winter storms are affecting many major roads in the county.

Snow, ice, and high winds, combined with fallen trees and downed power lines, created dangerous conditions around Santa Cruz County, closing major highways, including State Route 17, overnight.



Many Bay Area students will be out of school this week, but bad weather is causing many families to rethink their travel plans. NBC Bay Area’s Raj Mathai spoke with Brooke Bingaman, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Bay Area chapter, for insight into this latest storm.

A county emergency operations center was activated to monitor storm activity and coordinate the response by public agencies.

The county has encouraged people to use libraries and other public facilities to warm up, charge their electronic devices, and use the internet if their homes are affected by the power outage. here.
