“These are the most frightening times of my life. I think it’s objectively true. You know, they don’t just want to give billionaires tax credits and cut down on programs to people who work,” Sanders said. “Frankly, it happened before. But you generally combine it with the power of the Olihead. You can combine it with Mr Musk, who owns Twitter, and send his message to hundreds of millions of people.”

Musk purchased Twitter (now X) in October 2022 and pledged to revive free speech on its platform after censoring content during the 2020 election and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“You’re trying to turn em into a right-wing one, combining it with the fact that people like Bezos, the second-wealthest person in the country, have fired or driven away most of his editorial staff,” he continued. “Combine that with the fact that Trump is suing major media outlets and threatening to investigate PBS and NPR.”

Al Hunt, who has worked in journalism for over 60 years, said in February that he “had never been depressed” as he did after Trump and Bezos’ actions. Bezos had just shifted the manipulation section of the post to prioritize the freedom of individuals and the free market to defend.

Post’s digital leadership plummeted nearly 90% from 22.5 million active users in January 2021 to just 25-3 million Semafor in mid-2024. It has been reported January.

Additionally, ABC News and well-known host George Stephanopoulos agreed to settle Trump’s defamation lawsuit in December, pledging $15 million as a “charitable contribution” to the future.[p]Housing Foundations and Museums for the President.”

“So it’s not just the power of money. It’s a move towards authoritarianism, coupled with that. If Trump unilaterally cuts federal funds passed by Congress, it’s illegal,” Sanders said. “It’s unconstitutional. When he tells the Vice President, in his ruling, that the court has no right to stop the unconstitutional behavior of a person who is the president, it’s authoritarian. That’s the court.”

“He’s now trying to end something pretty smart about the Founding Father. He’s created a form of government that has checks and balances, creating legislative bodies, enforcement bodies, judiciary,” he continued. “So he’s actively working in all of these areas… this is a scary moment.”
