SCHLAPP & WALTON: Addressing Election Integrity Issues Is Crucial To Keeping Our Freedoms

America faces serious threats to our guaranteed freedoms, and if we do not act now to protect the right to vote, the situation will only get worse in the coming weeks.

CPAC has built an international network of political activists across five continents. In all 12 countries that have hosted CPAC events, including CPAC Mexico over the weekend of August 23, people around the world have expressed serious concerns about the way the U.S. is conducting its elections. They are stunned that the U.S. has made voting so complicated, drawn-out, and acrimonious.

In most democracies, elections are conducted so flawlessly that they produce a clear winner whether you like the result or not. In France, voting takes place the next day and the results are announced before tomorrow's baguettes are in the oven. The European Union has elections with plenty of controversy, but the “glitches” in the voting system and last-minute court attempts to change the rules go unreported.

Think about it: Many people around the world have lost faith that the American election will go smoothly. problem We've had voting machines in the past, non-citizens have voted, and rules have been changed with elections looming. It is beyond dangerous that our allies, our enemies, and the rest of the world may believe that America could become even more divided if people feel they cannot protect their vote. Whatever your political leanings, if we do not restore faith in the results of our elections, America will continue to be divided, our Republic will be weakened, and our enemies will conclude that we are a diminished and vulnerable former superpower.

Unfortunately, we are on a dangerous path toward that outcome, and it could get worse within days unless Americans of good will come together to make a change.

According to the latest count, 30 states will begin installing ballot boxes on their streets. According to the Constitution, states set the rules for their use. But enforcement is left to big-city politicians, almost exclusively led by socialist Democrats. Like the old South, these broken cities are one-party state. And there is a legitimate concern that strange things could happen on election night that would never happen in other countries.

CPAC strongly opposes Countless method While the Left is trying to delegitimize our elections, we are also realistic enough to understand that we must work to immediately improve the current system with less than 70 days to go. Requiring transparency and public oversight of these new voting methods would meet the public goals of both parties: making voting easy and making fraud impossible. If these public goals are not supported privately as well, we will be thwarted every step of the way by those who control blue cities.

With that in mind, CPAC has written to election officials in all major jurisdictions urging them to conduct ballot box observation and monitoring because, as we have written, “we need to ensure that ballot box observation activities are conducted in a manner that restores public confidence in fair, free and transparent elections.”

We hope that our efforts will strengthen state protocols that allow for ballot drop box monitoring consistent with how traditional voting methods are monitored, reducing voter anxiety and reducing post-election confusion.

We are currently in a very dangerous situation. Please consider the following:

Michigan Law admit There is a need for video surveillance of the boxes, but the municipality does not need to add cameras to the old boxes. rear In this presidential election, the biggest battleground state, Pennsylvania, need No box monitoring whatsoever. Nevada only need The ballot boxes would be made from a “hard” material, which ironically would not prevent voter fraud, but would instead prevent suspect ballots from being stolen.

Everyone who cares about a fair vote should work with us to increase confidence in our system. All voters, regardless of party affiliation, should expect that election fraud will be rooted out and that partisan activists will be stopped if they engage in illegal voting schemes to manipulate the election results. Even the suspicion of fraud fuels the belief across the country and around the world that a presidential winner is illegitimate.

A prompt and responsible response to our written requests for a better oversight process, including from the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ), would be a step in the right direction. The clock has already started and we await their response.

Let's send a message to Nicolas Maduro, Vladimir Putin and the Ayatollahs of Iran that America will fight tooth and nail and show the world that we are taking the steps necessary to ensure the security of an election where every legitimate vote counts. America is at its best when we acknowledge serious problems and repair what is broken with transparency and honesty. The old catchphrase rings true right now: “We're all in this together.”
