Sec. Howard Lutnick Speaks at Daily Caller Energy Event, Emphasizes Trade Successes of Trump Administration

Commerce Secretary Discusses Trade Deal

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick addressed the theme “American Jobs, American Strength” during a presentation by the American Beverage Association in Washington, DC. He highlighted the Trump administration’s latest trade deal and the ongoing challenges posed by Chinese economic practices.

In an interview with Dylan Housman, the editor-in-chief of Daily Caller, Lutnick spoke alongside a panel that featured Wisconsin Senators Ron Johnson and Grover Norquist, along with ABA president and CEO Kevin Keene. The panel was hosted by Daily Caller White House correspondent Reagan Reese and included discussions led by Jonathan Williams and Phil Kelpen of American Commitment.

Lutnick and Housman kicked off the event by celebrating what they described as an economic victory for the Trump administration, particularly mentioning a trade deal with Japan that was confirmed just a day prior.

“When I say historical, that means it fundamentally changes the previous approaches,” Lutnick explained. He mentioned that Japan initially hesitated to shift jobs but ultimately proposed the idea. “This was my concept, and I dedicated almost six months to it. They negotiated $550 billion with the president,” he stated.

Lutnick also noted efforts to reduce the $34 billion in monthly tariff revenue generated by the U.S., addressing non-voluntary trade barriers as part of this ongoing work.

The panel featuring Senator Johnson, Norquist, and Keene examined the job growth linked to American-made products. Johnson, drawing on his three years of experience in Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector, provided insights on the benefits of deregulation, while Norquist emphasized the need for reduced tactics to foster growth.

The event concluded with a discussion among Duke, Körpen, and Williams, who explored the “economic ripples” resulting from these developments.

This event marked the second installment of the Daily Caller Live series, reaching a broad audience both online and at Washington’s Waldorf Astoria venue.
