Sen. Marsha Blackburn Presses Biden Nominee On DOJ Censorship Involvement

Republican Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn on Wednesday questioned President Biden’s federal prosecutor candidate Brandon Long, focusing on Long’s role in censorship at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Long, a former chief of staff to FBI Director Christopher Wray, appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for a White House appointment as U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He is currently the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New Orleans, a position he has held since 2014.

Senator Blackburn denounced Long’s involvement with the FBI under Wray, saying, “I noted the time you were acting Chief of Staff for Wray, and that was my attention. I pointed out that you were in that position when the Hunter Biden laptop issue broke in October 2020.”

“You were there when the FBI owned that laptop but refused to correct all the misinformation that was circulating in the media,” she continued. “The FBI’s mishandling of Hunter Biden’s laptop is an example of why people think there is a two-tiered justice system.” (Related: FBI Director Christopher Wray to testify before House Judiciary Committee)

Blackburn also condemned the agency’s treatment of families and civilians. “You were there when concerned parents at a school board meeting were labeled ‘domestic terrorists.’ allegedly targeted and obstructed Hunter Biden’s tax investigation.”

“We need to know what your involvement was in all of this. Did you attend meetings, notes, emails?” asked Blackburn. “Have you attended any conferences, writings, notes, advice, or guidance regarding labeling a parent as a domestic terrorist? When you were there, what was your knowledge of, and participation in, the decisions and actions that the FBI made at the time?”

Mr. Long tried to answer the question by explaining his role within the agency, but Mr. Blackburn interrupted him. “I want you to answer the question, we know what the role is,” she urged.

“Could you please attach the memo in writing on my behalf and with your participation to the email?” added.
