It's peak deer hunting season in Alabama. During this period, known as the “rut,” bucks are searching for a mate and are much less likely to be wary during the day.

Robertson said he was having his morning coffee and snack when the gold coin first appeared.
“As soon as he came out, I had a coffee cup in one hand and an Oreo in the other,” he said. “I dropped the Oreo and put down my coffee cup. I picked up my rifle and put him in the scope.”
Deer season has ended or is scheduled to end on January 27th in some parts of the state, while season ends on February 10th in most parts of the state.
Hunters in Alabama kill an average of more than 300,000 deer a year. For each hunter he has a limit of three deer.
