At its April 18 meeting, the Gila County Board of Supervisors approved the submission of a grant application to the Sheriff’s Office to support emergency services internet infrastructure for fiscal year 2024. This application, with a base amount of $138,064, will be filed with the Arizona State Department of Administration. /arizonastraTaegik Enterprise Technology 9-1-1 Program Office (April 28, 2023). If approved, the grant will support both the Sheriff’s Department and the Payson Police Department, receiving $66,959 and $71,105 respectively.
The board also approved a $20,000 economic development grant for the non-profit Payson Rodeo Commission to support rodeo events, and $165,000 for the Pinal Gila Senior Citizens Council (PGCSC). Of these funds, $36,300 will go to City of Grove and $15,950 to the City of Miami. PGCSC chief executive Ana Medina said this continues her 30-year partnership with Gila County. She added that in fiscal 2022, the organization provided a total of 103,163 meals to seniors across the county, both group meals and home meals.with thisinclude 15,000 meals at The Grove and 12,764 meals at Miami.
The Board has approved several funding agreements to end homelessness between the Arizona Department of Housing and the Gila County Department of Community Services. For one, Community Services will receive his $60,000 to help those who lost shelter in the Econ fire in November.my Inn Motel Grove; funds will be used until June 30, 2023.
The second contract provides $7,000 in Continuing Care Plan funding, which will also be used through June 30th. The Board has awarded Civiltech Engineering and D2 Surveying LLC two contracts for on-call survey services not exceeding $100,000 each. Each contract is for one year, with three one-year renewal options. Because of their heavy workload, the county’s own survey departments were not always able to respond to land survey needs in a timely manner, so they were advertised for tender. A one-year economic development grant of $70,000 was also approved between Gila County and Conservation Legacy as the Board continues its efforts to establish a youth protection crew. At the time, $70,000 in funding was approved by the board, but remained unused because the partners were unable to recruit crew members. The current goal is to create his Grove-based crew of eight members (six local youths and her two mentors) that will cover both the Grove and the Tonto Basin. Crew members receive funding for college as well as hourly wages for participating in conservation projects.
