Snake season is underway across Yuma County

Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Snakes are lurking and scurrying in Yuma.

As temperatures begin to rise, snakes become more active.

Rural Metro Fire says it has already responded to several snake calls in our area this year.

Firefighting experts warn that staying alert and vigilant while outdoors, hiking, or gardening is your best bet for staying safe.

“We have to be aware that they’re starting to get hot right now, which means they’re all awake now and starting to eat everything. They’re all over here, so we We have to be careful,” said Capt. Matthew Sears of Rural Metrofire.

Three preventative measures that Yuma residents should practice include clearing bushes.

Also, keep your yard clean to prevent snakes from hiding and hiding.

“On rodents, we want to keep the rodent population down,” Sears continued.

And to all the gardeners out there in Yuma, Captain Sears said, “Wear your footwear…you’re protected, so don’t go out and walk around in your sandals. It’s a little dangerous.”
