Some Liberals Seem More Interested in Protesting Trump Than Honoring America on July 4

Anti-Trump Protests Planned for Independence Day Weekend

Several left-leaning groups, including the Women’s March and the Individual 50501 movement, are organizing nationwide protests called “Free America” over the Fourth of July weekend. These demonstrations aim to, as the Women’s March puts it, “free America from arbitrary terminations and a flood of illegal orders.” The group’s website highlights a range of activities, from rallies and block parties to street parades and backyard barbecues.

On June 27, the Women’s March shared a post encouraging participation, suggesting that protesting is a “patriotic way to spend July 4th.” The organization promotes the idea of using joyful resistance to protect democracy, with more than 250 protests planned across the country.

“Protest is a patriotic way to spend July 4th. It is at the heart of Independence Day and will drive our path forward! If you’re holding a block party or barbecue on July 4th, protect your democracy with joyful resistance!”

In addition to the Women’s March, other left-wing groups are set to hold a “No Kings 2.0” protest, emphasizing “independence without tyranny.” They argue this protest is about “people vs. power,” rather than a left or right divide.

The Indivisible announcement for this event states it targets “authoritarianism, corrupt leadership, racism, xenophobia, and injustice.” Meanwhile, in Florida, the United+ group and Democratic Progressive Caucus, Inc. are planning a Twilight march and a candlelight vigil featuring symbolic Baby Trump balloons protesting Trump’s policies and actions.

These upcoming events are part of a wider series of anti-Trump protests funded by various leftist organizations, including protests on Flag Day and recent demonstrations against immigration enforcement in Los Angeles.

The 50501 movement, promoting “50 states, 50 protests, one day,” has emerged as a grassroots effort against Trump’s policies and executive decisions, according to their website.
