South Star: Large scale music festival coming to Huntsville from producers of Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza

Get ready, Alabamians: A new music festival is coming to Huntsville this fall that's hailed as one of the largest in the South. The event will take place in the city's sprawling John Hunt Park complex and will feature “nostalgic pop and rock anthems,” according to organizers.

The festival, called South Star, is scheduled for September 28 and 29. Its website says it will “bring a world-class festival experience to everyone in Huntsville,” with more than 20 artists expected to perform throughout the weekend.

The official lineup for South Star has yet to be announced, but The Festive Owl, a reliable source for festival insider info, is currently reporting that rock sensations Blink-182 will be one of the headliners for the event.

South Star's website also says premium tickets offer a “next level” experience, encouraging customers to browse GA+, VIP and Platinum offers for perks such as priority access, exclusive viewing areas and air-conditioned lounges.

Ticket prices have yet to be announced.

C3 Productions, the company responsible for South Star, also produces major music festivals such as Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.

The city of Huntsville hasn't hosted a major music festival since the annual Big Spring Jam ended in 2011.
