Speaker Mike Johnson Promises ‘Full Investigation’ Into Trump Assassination Attempt

House Speaker Mike Johnson has vowed that Congress will launch a “thorough investigation” into Saturday's assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the suspect who opened fire on Trump at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania on Sunday morning, wounding the former president in the ear, leaving one rally attendee dead and two injured. During an appearance on the “Today” show on Sunday morning, Prime Minister Johnson called the assassination attempt a “horrific act of political violence.”

“Congress will conduct a full investigation into this tragedy and examine whether there were any security failures,” Johnson said. Posts X Sunday morning.

“What little information we know indicates a staggering security failure,” Hawley wrote. “Apparently, the shooter had access to a firearm and was able to position himself elevated in a clear line of sight to the president, with ample range.”
