In Colorado, a school district encouraged gym teachers to wear LGBTQ pride gear to show support for the LGBTQ community. School districts in California unanimously passed a resolution encouraging schools to introduce classes on gender identity and sexual orientation, days after parents voiced their opposition to the classes.
“There’s a lot that can be done along those lines of visibility,” Farmer said. “There are ‘safe student’ stickers, pride flags, bulletin boards that can promote diversity, equity and inclusion, LGBTQ+ pins and buttons that staff can put on their lanyards, but at the next level: Consider the curriculum and how to make sure it is inclusive.”
