YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – State Representatives representing Yuma County, Republican and Democratic state Reps. Tim Dunn, Michael Carbone, Michelle Pena, and Mariana Sandoval, and state Sens. Sign Carr and Brian Fernandez. Senators gather at City Hall for the last session.
They focus on how we can improve Yuma County, discuss legislation, and share updates on the state budget.
“While we may differ on policy and how we got there, we actually get along well and respect each other,” Sandoval said.
Water, health care, and one of the hottest topics of the night, the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), were discussed, but Sandoval opposed the program, saying it was having a negative impact on the state’s public schools. He said that
“If I ruled the world, I would rebuild the civilian volunteer program, because it was half of what it was last session when it was underfunded,” Sandoval said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Carbone said parents should be able to choose which school their children attend. I had to agree with them,” he added. ”
Matias Rosales, a San Luis resident and candidate, said he hopes to participate in next year’s City Hall. It’s clear there is,” he said. It’s happening in Congress. ”
Rosales also talked about what he is focusing on. “I’m going to focus on the economic growth of the district and education. Education is very important to our community here.”
All but Sen. Carr are still running to represent Yuma County this November.
