New battleground poll finds Arizona voters in key state Not supported Race-based reparations payments, supported by Vice President Kamala Harris.
As a senator, Harris Co-sponsored bills Establish a reparations commission to explore race-based equitable policies, including direct payments to Black Americans. Currently, Vice President Harris continues to support divisive and unjust reparations that would punish people today for the oppression they suffered before they were born. Nevertheless, in an interview with The Root, Harris said: pointed out “Some form of reparations is needed.”
Sensible Arizonans don't agree one bit. Overall, just 21% of voters in the state support reparations, 66% oppose them, and 14% are unsure.
The poll, conducted by Iron Light Intelligence for the American Federation of Labor, a mass labor group to which I belong, quizzed 600 voters in the Grand Canyon State and found the presidential race to be close, with former President Donald Trump and Harris each receiving 43% of the vote, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receiving 7% and 7% undecided.
In such a fierce battle, issues like compensation could mean the deciding difference in victory.
why?
That's right, even among Harris supporters, 44% are opposed to reparations. Among undecided voters, only 6% support reparations. Think about these numbers: Only a small percentage of undecided voters support Harris' reparations plan.
This radical goal therefore presents a major weakness for Harris if Trump supporters were to message effectively and frequently on this important issue. Consider the practical impact of taking money from Hispanic, Asian and white Americans and giving it to their black neighbors as atonement for crimes committed 160 years ago. Such a program would put America on the same path as South Africa, a country embroiled in a constant and accelerating cycle of racial hatred and sectarian violence.
Trump himself needs to confront Harris on this issue in a future debate, and the Trump campaign and all of us working to re-elect him must thoroughly expose Harris' extremism on this issue.
For example, consider Harris' own position on this issue: does she get paid half because she's half Indian and half black? Does it cancel out for her because she pays as Indian and receives as black? These questions seem ridiculous… and they are! The very idea of race-based pay and preferential treatment is ridiculous and clearly anti-white, Hispanic and Asian.
And as for reparations, they were indeed paid. America sacrificed greatly to end the evil of slavery. In fact, the suffering suffered by free black people is almost unfathomable by today's standards. I wrote about this very issue for RealClearPolitics. 2019:
“But the fact is, our nation has already waged a devastating war to end the evil of slavery and paid a heavy reparation. Reparations have been paid with the lives of well over 300,000 Union soldiers who gave their lives to reunify our nation and abolish human bondage on this land. In fact, the Civil War was so brutal that the total loss of life would be equivalent to more than 7 million people in today's population. Any radicals who are so disrespectful as to demand additional reparations should visit Gettysburg National Cemetery, where more than 3,500 Union soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the cause of abolishing slavery in our nation rest for all eternity. Reparations have been paid not only by the brave soldiers themselves, but by the widows and orphans they left behind.”
So let's bury this divisive, Marxist idea of race-based reparations. A key step toward that goal is defeating Harris, who is in a very weak position on this issue.
