Strong hails committee passage of defense spending bill

The National Defense Authorization Act was approved by the House Armed Services Committee by a vote of 57-1, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong announced Thursday.

“As a representative of North Alabama, protecting our nation's security is one of my top priorities,” said Committee Member Rep. Strong (R-Monrovia). “There is no denying that our great nation faces unprecedented threats from around the world, and this NDAA will address those threats head on.”

Lawmakers detailed what makes this year's NDAA different from past ones.

“Unlike previous defense authorizations, this NDAA includes targeted provisions to improve the quality of life for our soldiers, including significant pay increases for junior soldiers, sweeping reforms to on-base housing, and permanent authorization of the Military Spouse Career Accelerator pilot program.”

Strong said North Alabama plays a vital role in the nation's defense and praised Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Saxe County).

“I am proud of the provisions in the FY25 NDAA that support the vital role North Alabama plays in our national defense,” Strong said. “I thank Chairman Rogers for his work to support our military members and look forward to advancing this bill to the full House.”

Rogers called Strong a “tireless advocate for North Alabama.”

“Thanks to Rep. Strong's leadership on the House Armed Services Committee, the FY25 NDAA will strengthen our military, support our service members and their families, and support the important role Alabama plays in strengthening our nation's defense,” Rogers said.

The NDAA, which would authorize $883.7 billion for the Department of Defense, is currently before the House of Representatives. If enacted into law, the FY25 NDAA would be the 64th consecutive defense budget authorization.
